New Kirknewton Community Gardener – hello Christine Reid. Need your garden done? Details here!


Say hello to Christine Reid – our new Kirknewton Community Gardener. She replaces Greg Young who left us in December.

Christine is supported by the Scottish Government Strengthening Communities programme. The role is funded by doing gardens for local people ( start booking her services at christinekirknewton@gmail.com ).

You may have seen her recently doing the new gardens around the Pavilion in the Park. Her biography and experience is below.

You can book a slot with Christine for the new season now. She covers Kirknewton, East Calder and Calderwood.

An average grass cut front and back (depending on size of garden) is £30 (£25 with a Kirknewton Community Card). Other jobs can include;

 Grass and hedge cutting
 Small tree, bush and shrub removal
 Weeding and general tidy up
 Small landscaping work
 Fencing
 Small painting jobs
 Edible gardening
 Composting and recycling
 Garden design
 Advice and consultancy

We also offer a service to maintain shared green areas if enough residents sign up (approx £3 a month direct debit). Contact Christine for details – christinekirknewton@gmail.com.

Chrstine has lived in the village for 16 years with connections with the village all her life.

She has 4 kids 2 dogs and 1 husband!

Christine studied horticulture and landscape design and Construction at Oatridge. She is passionate about gardening and the benefits to the environment and our own wellbeing.

In the past she has been fortunate enough to have worked in National Trust gardens and large private estates. She is looking forward to working together with the community and improving and maintaining our public green spaces as well providing  gardening services for private residential gardens.

All the money raised helps support Christine’s employment, improving shared areas in the community, raising funds for community projects, maintaining areas like the community woodland and supporting activities including the school gardening club.
