Drop In to the Green Room
Drop in to The Green Room each weekday morning for a cup of tea or coffee and a chat between 9-1pm. The session is supported by a local volunteer. Lap tops are available for use, Ipad mini’s as well as KOBO readers. Our eco-friendly building is cosy and warm so feel free to pop in and find out what is happening in the local community.
The homework club is for both primary and high school pupils who are looking for a relaxed and peaceful environment for studying. Joining a homework club can be a fantastic way to boost your motivation and ensure you complete your work on time. A KCDT volunteer is present but parents/carers are most welcome. This is held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thuersdays from 3-30-5pm in the Green Room.
Keyboarding Skills Classes
The class is conducted by an experienced teacher and is tailored to suit the pupil whether beginner or intermediate. 8 years + Classes take place within a friendly atmosphere and should they wish to students may be put forward for Trinity Guildhall exams in electronic keyboard. Keyboards are provided at the Green Room. However pupils will require an instrument to practise on at home. These are held from Monday April 28 – June 23 from 6-7pm for 9 weeks / 7-8pm, £10 per session.
Small Businesses Marketing
Do you run your own business? Are you confused about how to market your business online? Erica Douglas is the author of two books and has trained hundreds of businesses like yours on how to create a marketing strategy for their business. She now works with local businesses just like yours. Join this workshop to learn how to create an online and offline marketing strategy that works. This will be an interactive workshop with plenty of opportunity to talk business and discuss ideas. You will walk away seeing your business in a new light and with a plan for how to improve on your current marketing activities. This is a free service and will run on Tuesday April 29 from 1-3pm and Monday May 12 from 1-3pm in the Green Room.
Computer Skills Group
Looking to improve your Computer Skills? Come and work though material from complete beginners to a more advanced level in a relaxed atmosphere. Participants are able to work at their own pace. You can also bring your own tablet or mobile phone if you are not sure how to use it! Provided in partnership with Bethany Christian Trust and Kirknewton & East Calder Parish Church. It starts on Monday May 5 and will be held every Monday from 1-3pm.
Le Club Francais
This French club for children aged 5 – 8 helps learn a language and not only boosts confidence but also improves concentration and memory. Le Club Français gives children the opportunity to discover French through the use of games, songs, stories and activities. The class places emphasis on learning through fun and engaging activities. It started on Wednesday April 23 and runs for 10 weeks until June 25 from 3.45-4.15pm, £3.50 per session of £32 for 10 weeks in the Green Room.
Family Book Club
This is a book club for parent and children 6+. It is free and meets every Wednesday from 30th April until June 25 from 6-6-45pm in the Green Room. We will be exploring books that promote discussion. Reading and sharing stories not only promotes literacy and an overall love of books, it also builds stronger relationships. When you expand the activity to include other families, you encourage your children and their friends to associate reading with fun. These session will be run and led by group members, so be prepared to be involved! Please contact KCDT if you and your child would like to attend.
Bookbug Sessions are free, fun and friendly events for babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers and their families to enjoy together. Each session lasts around 40minutes and includes songs, stories and rhymes. There is usually no need to book, they take place in a very relaxed environment and are a great opportunity to spend some quality time with your little one. The sessions are widely available throughout Scotland and are generally held in libraries or other community venues, so they are also a good way to meet other parents and children in your local area. They also have lots of benefits for your child, such as building up their confidence and social skills, and will give their speech & language development a real boost! It will be held at 10.30am on Wednesday May 7 and June 4.
Weekly Guitar lessons begin on Thursday May 1 for 10 weeks in the Green Room at 6.30-7.30pm 8-10 years, 7.30-8.30pm 11+ and 8.30-9.30pm adults. It is £10 a session. Learn about all aspects of the guitar, from playing your first chords and scales to writing your own songs, performing in a group and learning about music theory. Suitable for all ages and based around the music that you enjoy, these classes will inspire you to find your inner creative side.
The Kirknewton Youth Club is a weekly group for S1-S6 young people. The group is supported by a team of local volunteers and the Kirknewton Community Development Trust Youth and Volunteer Coordinator who provide fun and engaging activities for the young people of the village. So far the group has done a card trick workshop, cookery sessions and pizza night! Encourage your child along each Friday evening from 6-8pm, £1 in the Green Room
Come along to the Village Hall for BOXCIR which is a combination of boxing and cardio/strength circuit stations. Its a fantastic way to build stamina, strength and all over body fitness. Includes pad work, skipping, instructor led boxing techniques and specific abdominal exercise for male and females 18 years and over, all levels of fitness welcome. Playgroup is held in the Village Hall on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9-11.15am during term time, cost £5 per child. We are a happy, friendly and safe drop off playgroup for children aged 2-4 and a half.
Physio Pilates is run on Tuesdays in the Village Hall 6.45pm & 7.45pm, and is suitable for beginners or improvers. Modified Pilates is taught by a Chartered Physiotherapist, Dianne MacKenzie BSc MSc MCSP. CSP registered, HCPC registered and fully insured. APPI Certified Pilates Matwork and Small Equipment Instructor. Certified Pink Ribbon Teacher, which uses pilates to support recovery from Breast Cancer. A-Star Sports is a fun-filled multi-sports experience for children aged 2-10 years. We offer inclusive, developmental multi-sports coaching in a positive environment that begins with an initial ABC-based programme and develoP into ten core sports. Kirknewton classes run on a Wednesday afternoon 3.30 (pre-school) & 4.30 P1 – P3’s. Girls aged 5-7 are welcome to come along to Kirknewton Village Hall every Wednesday during term times between 5pm and 6.15pm. We have lots of fun doing different crafts, playing all sorts of games, learning new things, working towards special Girl Guiding badges and there is always lots of laughing going on. Brownies is for girls aged 7-10 and takes place after Rainbows on a Wednesday in the village hall 6.30-8pm during term times. We are similar to Rainbows but aim it at the slightly older age group. Games, crafts, badges, outings and weekends away at Brownie Camp are just a few of the exciting things the girls get up to when at Brownies.
Through this action-packed programme, girls can build confidence by developing new skills, learning about the wider community, finding out about different cultures and getting involved with global issues like the environment and endangered species. Further info from Gill on 07816880175 or 883261.
Zumba for thighs, bums and tums are run by Katrina, a fully qualified fitness instructor. Currently running two classes in the Village Hall, Kirknewton, on a Thursday evening. Zumba at 7-8pm followed by Tums Bums Thighs at 8-9pm. Both classes are suitable for all levels. Contact Katrina on 07940 245 151.
The cafe is open on Friday afternoons in the Village hall during school term time from 4-5pm. All primary schoolchildren are welcome to this café environment serving home baking & hot .
Lord Academy of Performing Arts

We meet every Wednesday at 7pm. outside the Park entrance for a one and a half to two hours walk. For all abilities. Walking from Kirknewton to wherever the mood take us.
