Sssshhh – Kirknewton Santa gossip!

The Kirknewton Christmas Festival is in full swing and we even have snow to welcome it for 2012!  Thanks to the 400+ who came to the Procession and Lighting of the Kirknewton Christmas Tree Lights that were switched on by Mrs Charleston.  It was the biggest and best lighting of the Christmas tree yet and a great start to the Festival.  Thank you to for the £140 donation for your glow sticks from the school play ground.

On Sunday 9th December at 12 noon til 3am at the Kirknewton Family Christmas Craft and Food Fair you can see Santa (adults too!), get a Gala Burger at the BBQ, enjoy some mulled wine and home baking from the allotments, sing carols with the Kirknewton Choir, enjoy some cracking food, buy some unique last minute Christmas presents and check out Potter Around and their new Family Treepot range.  There will be a raffle to win a home made Christmas Cake and oddles of prizes in the Playgroup raffle.  200+ attended last year so please take your car only to drop off or walk if you can.

Over 200 volunteer hours have been spent since November 2011 (and many more before then) on preparing the planning, building warrant and tender process to build the Kirknewton Resource Centre on the Old Gospel Hall site.  We will be sending the final tender to the successful contractors next week and hope to make a decision on who that will be and begin building in Jan/Feb 2013.  As you may know the cost of arranging planning and the design of the roof has cost the community £20,000 more than originally anticipated which is why we would like to contribute some of the funds from the ‘I Love Kirknewton’ Fundraising Challenge to the build.  This will be a hub for the community, support services and volunteers in the village and compliment more well needed space to the Village Hall.  So please start thinking now of how you can help raise money or get sponsored from now and throughout 2013 and let us know what you plan at– it would be great to hear your ideas before 12.12.12, the official launch date of the Challenge!

If you missed it here are the pics from the Kirknewton Volunteering Awards 2012 – pics can be purchased from the site and all profits will go to the ‘I Love Kirknewton’ Fundraising Challenge

We now have over 300 people following the Kirknewton Community Group on facebook!/groups/kirknewton/ and over 200 people on twitter at – please share with Kirknewton friends so they can be kept up to date with all the latest news, including Christmas Festival events such as the Carol Singing Torchlight Procession, Mince Pies and Watchnight Service on 24 Dec.
