Join the community Neighbourhood Watch scheme! This is an all village scheme to help make your community safer. All you have to do is register your details on the site below and, when prompted, join Kirknewton Watch. You will be able to contact the police about anti social activity, dog fouling, speeding etc. through the system and find out more about incidents in your area. Expect wheelie bin stickers promoting the scheme very shortly. The local community police team would like to see as many people sign up for this in Kirknewton as they can. http://www.neighbourhoodwatchscotland.co.uk/
There’s no other way to put this. We need your help from now to August 2013 to help raise funds for projects identified in the Kirknewton Community Consultation.
We want to get everyone – kids, teenagers, students, adults, parents, carers, grandparents and pets to be part of Team KN and join in with the ‘I Love Kirknewton’ Fundraising Challenge.
The three projects are youth groups, the cycle/walking multipath and the new community hub (full details below). All funds will be distributed by the local charity group Kirknewton Community Development Trust (so remember you can Gift Aid your donations if asked)
The target is £200,000 by August 2013 – we can do it together with your help!
You can simply donate £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10 by texting on your phone KCDT01 £(your donation) to 70070 – don’t forget to gift aid it when asked.
You can also donate online at https://www.charitygiving.co.uk/donate/donate_b.asp?charityid=6957
PUT THE FUN IN FUNDRAISE
You can fundraise yourself or as part of a group and set up your fundraising page at https://www.charitygiving.co.uk/fundraising/newpage.asp?charitylink=6957
You could walk, run, hop or do something crazy like sit in bath full of beans or wear a tea cosy on your head for a day – just let us know what you would like to do at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/kirkfundraising and give it a go! We’ll let everyone know what you are up to.
Get family, work colleagues and friends to sponsor you – they can even do it online in euros or $’s (particularly if you know any Texan millionaires!)
SWAP, SELL AND BUY AND GIVE AN HONESTY DONATION
If you have anything you want to swap, sell or buy then let nearly 300 local people know online at the Kirknewton facebook group ‘virtual car boot sale’ at http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/kirknewton/ from now until the end of January and give ‘honesty donation’ of what you get.
SHOP FOR CHRISTMAS ONLINE
If you are shopping online for Christmas sign up to our easyfundraising page at http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/kirknewtoncdt
SUPPORT SO FAR
Konect have offered a page for free to tell you about the challenge. We’ve got a number of individuals, youth groups, the church and the primary school supporting the challenge who are already thinking up some wild and crazy fundraising ideas. You’ve been selling and swapping stuff on the Kirknewton facebook group already. Companies such as Maximillion have offered a percentage of group bookings they get (if they say ‘Kirknewton Challenge’) and all the money raised from a day out for 12 people on 4x4s, archery and quad bikes worth over £1000. All that in just two weeks – but we need your help too. Yes you. All of you. And your friends and family too!
By 12.12.12 we’d like as many of your ideas as possible – and maybe you’ll do something on or around that date too as part of the Kirknewton Christmas Festival.
You may just do one or a couple of things. You may go completely mad and do as much as you can. Anyone who raises over £1000 will also get a plaque in the new Resource Centre and become part of Kirknewton history.
The beauty is you can do anything!
THE PROJECTS YOU WILL HELP
Youth Groups need your help
Did you know we want to start a youth club in Kirknewton? That the Kosy Kafe is looking for volunteers to keep it open? That the playgroup have struggled for funds in the last year? That some laptops in the school have missing keys? That we would like to see a youth co-ordinator to support such groups?
Help develop a cycle/walking multipath from Kirknewton
Did you know over the last year a group of volunteers have been working with the Forestry Commission on a cycle/multipath route around nearby Selm Muir Wood and planning an off road route from the village to get there? On 10.11.12 they are going to spend the day clearing a route and building up some ditches with the Forestry Commission and are looking for some volunteers. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you wish to help.
Help pay for the Resource Centre roof!
Did you know that we have to contribute £20,000 of Development Trust funds to the Resource Centre build and, because of planning, the original (donated) roof is now having to be paid for? This building will allow for more activity based groups in the village hall and provide a place for support partnerships in Kirknewton. It is expected the build will begin in January and completed by March 2013.
ONE YEAR ONLY
So, for one year only, charity begins at home.
Please, please, please help improve the quality of life in your own community from now to August 2013.
Be part of Team KN and join the ‘I Love Kirknewton’ Fundraising Challenge. Donate, text, fundraise, swap, sell, buy, shop online, go crazy – whatever help you can give is very much appreciated.
If you have any other ideas to help raise funds that you would like to do, let us know.
